Early detection of vascular disease may save your life.
Vascular disease is a common disease in the United States affecting millions of people. Diseases associated with vascular disease are a leading cause of death. Many people will not have symptoms until it has progressed and causes complications.
Vascular disease affects the blood vessels and disrupts the normal flow of blood throughout the body; it can lead to a variety of conditions, potentially leading to serious health complications including skin ulcers, aneurysm and stroke.
It just takes one.
Just one risk factor for vascular disease significantly increases the likelihood that you will develop cardiovascular disease.
Risk factors
Risk factors for vascular disease include:
- Diabetes
- Age (50+)
- Overweight
- History of smoking
- History of blood clots
- High cholesterol
- High blood pressure
- Family history of vascular disease
If you have one or more risk factors for vascular disease, you may want to consider a Vascular Health Screening at Mercy.
A simple screening can help.
Mercy’s Vascular Health screening consists of three non-invasive tests that are proven to be safe and effective at detecting vascular disease:
- Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) screening
- Abdominal aortic screening
- Carotid screening
The screening is relatively quick. Results will be shared with you and your primary care provider (PCP).
Vascular Health Screenings are conducted at the Plumb Heart Center, conveniently located off 8th Avenue, across the street from Mercy Medical Center in downtown Cedar Rapids.
